Only time for a quick-ish entry.
So if anybody cares my family was unaffected by the bombing in London. I said to my Dad that the UK’s been living on borrowed time since 9/11. Even the last time Pie and I were back in the UK they caught some people trying to make Ricin, or maybe it’s some of that bad English cooking I hear so much about.
Interesting how I haven’t heard one person in the US say about the UK “well it’s sad but they really need to look at their foreign policy”, but then again 90% of people I know didn’t put 2:2 together about me coming from London
MU’s first show went pretty well despite Jeff communing with the Mothership during the performance. Usually we can’t stop him soloing and that night he forgot about twice and totally lost his way in some songs. Charity was wasted and in the “I love you man” stage of drunkenness, which is better then the violent stage of drunkenness. We were meant to play the next night in Tacoma but it got cancelled at the last minute. I was actually about to go through my pre-show “shall I wear leather trousers” or not routine when a friend called and told me he didn’t think there was going to be a show. As sore as I was from the previous night I was pretty let down.
In other let downs our recording was cancelled on Saturday due to Charity having blown her voice. I had to drive to the studio to make sure that the engineer/producer knew. I felt all lost for the rest of the day (fortunately he didn’t charge us).
Here’s my parting thought for the day which is a quote from his holiness Bruce Springsteen:
"If you grew up in the 60s, you grew up with war on tv every night. A
war that your friends were involved in...and I want to do this song
tonight for all the young people, if you're in your teens... because I
remember a lot of my friends when they we were 17 or 18, we didn't
have much of a chance to think about how we felt about a lot of
things. And the next time, they're gonna be looking at you, and you're
gonna need a lot of information to know what you're gonna wanna do.
Because in 1985, blind faith in your leaders, or in anything, will get
you killed. Because what I'm talking about here is: War!
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing.... --Bruce Springsteen, introducing his band's
rendition of "War" by Edwin Starr, Los Angeles, September, 1985
