So I forgot to mention in my last post I have a side project currently referred to as The Beanie Shavers. It started off as Britney Shaves Her Beanie and eventually got corrupted down to the Beanie Shavers (and yes I know that a beanie is a cap, I wear them all the time, it’s just a name damn it). Eventually we may change it (I’m pushing for Echo Hook, or failing that Nipho Nuns From The Planet Sexaphon 69).
It started as an (insert company name) corporate band with me and my friends Dave and Adarsh. It was meant to be part of corporate rock band contest for charity but (insert company name) refused to sponsor so we ended up keeping going. Originally we were meant to have a live drummer and a lead singer (to do my parts least ways), but neither of them turned up so we ended up using a drum loop and Dave and I taking turns writing songs and singing them.
I prefer Dave’s voice to mine though I think it’s beginning to improve (which helps me do PW backing). Sadly Adarsh split after a couple of months, I think he was frustrated because he had ideas we didn’t want to use so I enlisted Jeff as a part time Shaver. Firstly he came in to do the odd solo and soon he’ll be bringing in a song or two. This is more of a singer/songwriter thing then PW which is more of a collaborative effort and also is right now only a studio band.
Pie and I had a great vacation in Hawaii in September. Since we came back she’s been swearing she wants to move there. I have to admit other then muggy heat and the constant wind it is like paradise. We mainly went to see the last show in the NIN tour (always good for people watching) but the highlight was swimming with dolphins at Sealife Park. Some talk of it as a transcendent experience, which is one way of looking at it, but it was certainly fantastic. I got to do a belly ride on one which was amazing, you swim out to the middle of the pool and the trainer sends the dolphin underneath you. Once you grab the fins your zoomed to the edge of the pool.
I also got to swim on a couple of the days and forgot how much I used to enjoy it. What made me laugh was watching the fatty Americans in their over stretched bathing suits wallowing in the hot tub….oh they’d occasionally dip a hippo foot in the pool and look scared…but would quickly retreat to their wallowing. Apart from hair matted like straw I’d come out of the pool feeling 110% better.
PW played it’s first reunion show last week at Hells Kitchen. Apart from the last song falling apart we had a pretty good time. I swore I wouldn’t head bang but couldn’t help myself. I got an Ampeg 6 x 10 a few months ago so I could be more self sufficient and not rely on people driving my gear around. After manhandling it in and out of the car 4 times it lost it’s glamour pretty quickly.
I got a violin bass two weeks ago from E-bay for $50. I knew it was missing parts but was hoping I could bring it back for not much. Sadly when I took it to the guy at Guitar Center for set up, the truss rod snapped so another happy idea down the toilet. Pity it was close to being cool. I’d even talked Pie into giving it a trippy 60’s painted job for me.spoke Rob at at 3.00pm | permalink | 1 comment
