Welcome to the adult rock show

Pie and I went to see Depeche Mode at Key Arena this week. I’ve never been a big DM fan but I’ve starting getting into them since Pie convinced me we needed to go to the show. I especially enjoyed Dave Gahan giving it up, considering he’s been singing some of these songs for 20+ years he’s still make a good show of getting into it. I’ve never been to a concert where I’ve sat down for most of the show before. It could be because Pie and I were in the nose bleed section but I wasn’t against it either. It was also nice being to a show where people weren’t kicking each other in the head, worst I had to deal with was the bald guy next to us wearing a cozy sweater and doing the white man’s overbite.

As for Modern Union, we’re going to try bringing in a second (male vocalist) so while Liz is handling baby issues we’ll have a singer and when she’s available they could harmonize.

Puritan Irony

A public non-smoking ban passed in WA yesterday banning smoking within 25 feet of any public door, window or vent. Now I’m anti smoking but even to me that’s a little draconian. I find self righteous anti-smokers so annoying it makes me want to buy a pack of Marlboros and frantically puff into their faces with yellow teeth, the Truth adverts especially annoy me.

I miss the ones with the lady with her voice box smoking through a tracheotomy hole. They should have had her sing Britney Spears at the same time, that would put people of smoking and bad pop songs, effectively immobilizing the whole MTV generation. .

I had a thought the other day which was most religions think of God as a ‘he’ and be very male biased. Either the kind Christian Jerry Garcia look or the more Middle Eastern angry looking version. As pointed out in Dogma religion tends to be biased against women and as Alannis Morisette played God in that film, if God really was a woman that really would be Ironic wouldn’t it. :-)
